Vote for an update!

Postby cyberkilla » Tue Aug 04, 2009 12:54 pm

Instead of deciding what I think is more important, I'm offloading that privilege onto you, the player! You have to wonder whether it's out of the goodness of my heart ;)

Now, FutureRP is a complex beast, with many heads. Unfortunately, they all need polishing, but which one do we do first!?

Below, I have compiled a list of the most common suggestions/complaints/ideas that I receive. Everyone is welcome to vote for the one they deem the most important. I will then set about complying to your demands. Here we go:

Skill system needs refresh - the skill feature needs an update to its interface, plus the addition/removal of several skills, to make it more useful to players! Some of the skills are very handy, but time has proven that some of them serve no purpose at all - not even through novelty value!

In this update, I propose that we split skills into a number of shared categories, plus a race specific one which has a few skills that can only be trained by the race your character was set to.

Website theme needs polishing - although most people consider the game's theme to be relatively good and easy to use, I personally believe that it could do with some tweaks. For instance, the header could be updated, a few gradients added to make the stats bar feel more attached to the rest of the page, more beautiful tooltips for items, skills, etc.

Okay, so this may not be the most vital thing in the world, but over time a few tweaks here and there will keep things fresh.

Game needs more items - this is not as simple as it sounds. We need more items, it's true. However, they also need a "vector" for insertion. For example, they can be dropped by NPCs, Boss NPCs or sold by merchants. They could even be sold in the speciality store (which is intended as a global store that's not quite an in-game construct).

If I was to add more items, the first thing I would consider is the long-awaited Shadow Set, which caters to level 40+, I believe. If this is voted for, we'll have to determine the level range where the majority of players reside, so they can get priority. I'd obviously have to cater to the new players too, to keep them happy;).

Game needs more maps - now this, I don't quite agree with. I think we have enough maps for now - there just isn't enough content on them!

Game needs more quests - if you believe this to be the highest priority task to work upon, vote for it. This task is intricately linked to adding more items and maps to the game, for obvious reasons. It's also the most massive task, but if it's voted highest, you obviously want it done.

More Boss NPCs - these are the little monster-type thingies that live in the World. Your guild raids them and they occasionally drop treasure when you kick seven sorts' out of them.

Again, intricately tied into the addition of maps, quests and items.

Guilds need item equivalent - two options with this. First option: we bring back some sort of "guild assets" where you buy little item things for your guild, which can be destroyed/stolen, but while they're around, they give every member of your guild a power boost and make your raids more rewarding.
Second option: we opt for a similar sort of thing, but you have to explore the world to find these assets/territories that you can purchase. Once purchased, they would either last a fixed period of time, gradually be damaged by raiding until they disappeared, etc.
I suppose you could do it where you steal the territory from a guild, but I think it may be too complicated.
Let me try again:
# You find a "Laser Turret" on the map.
# One of the players from your guild clicks to buy it with guild funds.
# You now have +1 Laser Turret on your profile, giving you 1,000 Attack per member:O
# The benefit lasts until it's destroyed in a raid (outgoing AND incoming).

Sounds like a nice, simple system that could be fun.

Trading block needs refresh - the trading block is noticeably aged to me. I don't like it. It could be a lot more active and a LOT more useful! I have some plans to improve the interface, plus add few new features.

More comprehensive leader boards - everybody likes their name at the top of a list. FutureRP has a ridiculous number of statistics, and only a few are exposed! Why don't we put more emphasis on leader boards? We could split off key statistics onto separate, larger leader board pages, with rewards automatically sent out to those who are the best!

Bombing run-style feature - remember the bombing run in UT? You have an orb/bomb and once you're hit, there's a chance that it's passed to the victor.
This is a stupid thing, but might be fun.. What if we had 5-10 special items which gave pretty incredible bonuses, but were lost eventually, after a few attacks? They could reset every day, being given randomly to certain people. If you have one, you can't have another, so they wouldn't instantly go to the top players.

It might encourage more erratic attacking. We could even log the people who managed to steal them the most! If we could find a way to stop it being related to your level, it would be even more fun.

Don't take this one too seriously - I know it's crazy, but it IS fun - we had this in round 2 for a while :P

Default avatar images for each playable race - make me draw an avatar for each playable race, to stop everyone registering to blank avatars and having no game-related artwork in the gallery of avatars available (the thing you use if you don't upload one from your computer).

Draw the avatars for NPCs - I know, many of them are missing. The main reason was that I seemed to keep starting again, and recognised the folly of spending hours drawing avatars for soon-to-be-deleted NPCs. I think it's pretty stable now though, so it's time to get this done.

One-click chat room - the jabber server is awesome for me and the regular chat users. However, the casual people haven't the knowledge, time or inclination to figure it out. With this in mind, a browser-based chat client needs to be found that will lower the barrier to potential chatters

I'm sure I've missed a few, so feel free to post them here; I may or may not add them to the list :o

More quests, then more items. Would be awesome if some of the former intertwined with the latter. :P

More raid bosses can be involved with the above as well.

Should keep ppl from fraying away since they give people more to do than just grind and be involved in raids. And everyone knows, we need more ACTIVES!

Okay, the poll is over, and I'm scared.

The task is daunting, but you voted for it so you can't complain:P
